Mr Al-Mahfoudh performed back surgery on me. He explained everything about the procedure, listened to my concerns and once I was seen by him the surgery was done quickly and efficiently. While I was under his care in hospital, he was available for advice and I saw him daily. During the follow up appointments I felt reassured and more confident. Before I met Mr Al-Mahfoudh I was under the pain management consultant and walking with crutches. Now I’ve cut my medication by half and can walk unaided.

An amazing experience, surgery by Dr Rafid Al-Mahfoudh has changed my life and I am now totally pain free and getting my life back. I was referred very lucky to see him in The Royal Sussex A&E when in absolute agony from back and leg pain. He saw me very quickly and I had a microdiscectomy at L5/S1 just a few weeks later. He explained the whole process to me and made me feel at ease. Even when I was nervous about having the surgery he called me at home and talked me through the process. Cannot recommend enough.

On meeting my clinician Mr Rafid Al-MahoudhI found him to be confident and pleasant to talk to, he reviewed my scans exceptionally carefully and took his time to read my file. He discussed my life style and my brief history. He gave me a thorough examination explaining to me what he was doing, after the examination he was thoughtful and discussed the way forward for me explanation the likely procedures as well as the possible outcomes of the procedures, all of what he said I as able to understand and make a decision on the basis of my"risk benefit". He explained that he would require a further MRI and would see me after that, I felt reassured after that consultation I was in good safe hands, the scan was came quickly as well as second consultation. On the second consultation I had brought some questions about the procedure and worries that I had, all were answered to my full satisfaction. I was pleased that the risks that I could face were again relayed to me with clarity and were to the point. I decided after a full explanation that I wanted this to happen and he pull forward the date of the procedure, he also said"I will do the very best for you" meaning that he would try to do the two issues if possible but explained that if he could not the reason were .......... On the day his team came to see me and put me at ease and when Mr Rafid Al-MahoudhI came to go through the procedure he reiterated what he had told me before and put me so at ease. I was told the procedure lasted just under 5 hours - any how I was in recovery and feeling how one does I suppose. WOW FULL USE OF MY RIGHT HAND AND WRIST MOVEMENT AGAIN. I was ecstatic and back in the ward when Mr Rafid Al-MahoudhI popped in to see if I was ok, I just had to show how what a great job he did, he then told me he was able to do every thing. I feel that he certainly did his best and has made me so so happy. The after care has been excellent and I must say the communication from his personal staff has been exceptional.

We had complete faith in his knowledge and ability. In talking to a person with dementia, slower speech and simpler information would be helpful. He gave us ample time and answered all our questions.
